Principal's Message

Dear Alta Loma Parents and Supporters,

As principal, I have a strong desire to continue developing a family atmosphere strengthened by bonds of camaraderie, trust and support with our parents, families and teachers.  Indeed, one of the Board-approved LCAP goals of our district is to enhance our parent and community engagement and participation with Alta Loma activities.  I firmly believe that the mission of the PTA is to further this effort and be the center of this great movement of mutual cooperation and unity.

Without the efforts of the PTA, we would not be able to function as a school.  We owe a debt of gratitude to the PTA for so many dedicated and supportive actions including:
•    Helping pay for 6th, 7th & 8th Field Day & trips
•    Helping fund 8th Grade Ceremony
•    Providing teachers/staff with a $100 allocation expenditure
•    Providing teachers/staff several luncheons throughout the year
•    Donate money towards school necessities (in the past--outside benches, curtains in Ram Hall, library, computers)

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered, supported and been a proud member of the ALMS PTA thus far.  We are in danger, however, of not having a PTA next year because we do not currently have volunteers for our main officers.  To function as a PTA, we need to have a President, Secretary and Treasurer as a baseline to legally constitute a PTA organization.  Please help us preserve our honorable organization!  We need you!  We are currently looking for the following PTA Executive Board Officers: click to continue

Parent Survey

Your school needs you to complete this online survey to learn more about your opinions. This survey is an opportunity to communicate your perceptions about your child’s school. If you have any questions about this survey, contact Dr. Valerie Garrett at vgarrett@ssfusd.org.

Your participation is voluntary. It is also very important. The information you provide will help guide district and school efforts to promote safety, enhance learning supports, and improve student achievement.

  • This is an anonymous survey.  It is designed so that no one can be identified from the data.  You do not have to respond to any questions that you feel could be used to identify you.  Simply skip any such questions.
  • All questions apply to this school only.
  • The results are for the use of your district.  The California Department of Education and WestEd will preserve data confidentiality and refer any data requests to the district.

If you have more than one child at this school, you will only need to complete one survey for this school. Please fill out just one survey about the school using your oldest child as a reference.

Access the survey using the following URL:
Parents only *** surveys.wested.org/csps/PF234XT ***

If you are having trouble taking the survey, please contact Dr. Valerie Garrett at vgarrett@ssfusd.org.

The designs for the Class of 2018 sweatshirts are finally ready to be sold. There are 2 designs to choose from because I know that students have different opinions, the back design however will be the same.  The sweatshirts will be sold during lunch in front of Ram Hall for 2 weeks starting on April 10th through Friday, April 20th.  Sweatshirts are only pre-sale, so you must purchase one in advance.   Once you submit payment and select your size, all orders will be placed.  It will probably take 2-3 weeks for the sweatshirts to be produced from that point.

Sweatshirts can be purchased as crewneck ($30) or hooded ($40). An actual sample will not be on-hand to look at when you purchase since they have not yet been produced.  You can look at the sample picture here in the attachments or in person.  Disregard the fact that the attachment says El Camino mock up.  All sweatshirts will be in adult sizes.  Cash is the preferred method as we are nearing the end of the year. The names that you see on the back sample has last year's names on them because that's what the designer had on file but of course, the ones you purchase will have your names on them.

Once the sales are over, there will not be an opportunity to purchase after.  Please make note of this because it happens every year, people choose not to get a sweatshirt but once they see that everyone has one, they want one.  Again, since the end of the year is so close, we will not have time to make a late order.  If you have any questions, please let me know.

Mr. Tom

As the end of the year approaches, we need to start thinking about fundraising for our Great America Field Trip.  To offset the cost that each student would have to pay we will be holding the Walk-a-thon which has been a successful fundraiser in years past.  Without any fundraising the field trip will be very expensive including the cost of the admission and bus ride.  I would hate for any students to miss out on the opportunity to celebrate the 3 years that we spent here at Alta Loma and prepare for high school because the tickets were more than families were willing to pay.  Without any fundraising, students would be paying $57 to attend the field trip.  With successful fundraising, the goal is to get ticket prices down into the $20 range but has been as low as $10 before.

The Walk-a-thon will take place on Wednesday, April 25th after school between 2:30-3:30 on the blacktop.  A course will be set up and students will have fun with their friends and walk laps to raise the money that they received donations for from friends and family.  You will solicit donations 1) per lap, or 2) flat rate.  Rather than asking friends or family members for cash in person, an easier way is by creating a webpage using the site that is attached.  This is a very quick and easy process.  Once you create the page, all you have to do is copy and paste the link into emails and send them out to whomever you feel will donate.  Please help support our class and lower the cost of our Great America Field Trip.  Top fundraisers will earn a free trip to Great America, along with other incentives.

$25 will earn a free dress

$50 will earn a free homework pass in a class to be determined

Top fundraisers earn their trip for free and maybe even a funnel cake if you can find me at Great America.  If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Tom.

Here is the link (but you'll have to copy and paste it) to the page you will create and all of the money that you earn will show up on your account that you created so we can keep track.  Good luck and thank you for your support!

Mr. Tom

Alta Loma Middle School is excited about our new program, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS). PBIS is a proactive approach to establishing the support needed for all students in school to achieve social, emotional, and academic success. Key focus areas of PBIS at Alta Loma include prevention, positive behavior supports, and using data to better determine the needs of our students.

We are looking for help from local community and surrounding area businesses to help support students and our program at Alta Loma Middle School. Acknowledging both students and staff for their dedication to the program will help ensure the success of PBIS in our school and help support positive behaviors in the community. Any form of support you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. Examples of things that may be helpful would include gift certificates, product sets/baskets, or financial donations to help purchase materials needed for the program. Any donation will be publicly acknowledged, as we are deeply grateful for your support.

We look forward to  partnering with you to ensure the success of our students.

Please use the form attached to fill out the necessary information and keep the portion below as an unofficial receipt for your records, until an official one is sent to you upon receiving the donation.

About Peachjar eflyers

In the past, our schools sent home loads of flyers in students’ backpacks. As part of our efforts to be more environmentally friendly and to embrace innovative technology, we have moved from paper to a digital flyer delivery.

With our Peachjar eflyer program, the eflyers will be sent directly to parents’ email inboxes as well as posted on school websites for easy access. All flyers may be accessed by clicking on the  logo.

Each year, our schools will save tons of paper and reduce copy costs by thousands of dollars. In addition, paperless delivery of school flyers removes a significant administrative burden from teachers, office staff, and volunteers.

School and school district-approved eflyers will keep you informed about upcoming school activities, programs, and events. And our children's backpacks will be a little bit lighter!
