Alta Loma will be providing outside counseling services through the Youth Service Bureau (YSB) for the 2014-2015 school year. We have two wonderful YSB counselors on campus serving our students this year. Jenn Gascon and Rachel Anicette will be working in collaboration with Mrs. Middough and Ms. Levine(school counselors) to address the needs of our students. They  will be running counseling groups as well as one on one counseling. If you are interested in signing your student up for any of these free services, please email your child's school counselor with your name, your student’s name and what kind of services you are interested in. See below for more information.

CALM: Emotional awareness and life skills group designed for youth in middle school to talk safely about behaviors, learn resistance and communication skills and identify personal assets and strategies to address real-life challenges.

Girls United: A psycho-social group provided on campus to empower girls, develop strong peer support, and give them a safe place to deal with life pressures which may affect them such as drugs & alcohol, gang involvement, academics, relationships, social pressure, abuse, sexuality, depression, anxiety, bullying/harassment. The group focuses on building girls' self-esteem, strengthening healthy decision making and becoming more responsible overall. Girls are encouraged to take the right steps toward achieving their goals.

If you're interested in learning more about group counseling services, please contact your child's school counselor.

Individual Counseling: Students often perform poorly in school as a result of stressful home lives, difficult peer relationship, or more serious mental health issues. School based counseling provides support to these students in dealing with problems that don’t normally get addressed during the school day. For most students we serve, this will be their only resource for counseling. By treating the underlying cause, students are able to refocus their attention on positive growth and success in school.

Lunch Club: A place for students (mostly 6th graders) to come and meet new people, play games and hang out. Jenn Gascon will run the lunch club on Fridays in Room 4 during the lunch period. Come check it out! We have a lot of FUN!
